TAG: This or That

Oct 31, 2011

I saw this tag posted on some of the blogs that I follow as well as youtube and I thought I would go ahead and tag myself!  Cheers

Q: Blush or Bronzer?
Blush baby!  Way more options and you can even find blushes that can take the place of bronzer.

Q: Lipstick or Lip gloss?
Gloss of course.  My lips peel like crazy and sometimes lipstick is just too high maintenance.  Gloss is always the easier option for me.

Q: Eyeliner or Mascara?
Mascara.  Even though I love a cat eye, I could always use eye shadow as liner if I was in a pinch.

Q: Foundation or Concealer?
FOUNDATION!!!!  It completes me!  Plus any good foundation should be able to conceal with a bit of layering.

Q: Neutral or Color Eyeshadow?
Neutral.  I can't believe I just typed that because I was previously a color girl all the way but I'm completely into neutrals now.

Q: Loose or Pressed Eyeshadow?
Pressed...less work and less mess.  They are also easier to travel with.

Q: Brushes or Sponges?
Brushes...I just can't with the sponges.

I love tags and this was definitely an interesting one because my preferences have changed so much in the last year.

This Just In: Mally 10 Piece Automatic Waterproof Eyeliners

Oct 26, 2011

QVC is amazing at times.  I am obsessed with the easy pay option that they occasionally have because I feel like I can stick to my monthly makeup budget and still get the things that I want.  My latest easy pay purchase was from Mally Cosmetics, which I don't own anything from.  I hauled the 10 piece Deluxe Automatic Waterproof Liner Collection (A218012).  The featured product price was $45.48 when I purchased it and it had an option to do easy pay and get it for two payments of $22.74.  I definitely thought that this was a steal.

Products Purchased:

MALLY 10-pc Deluxe Automatic Waterproof Liner Collection
QVC Item Number:  A218012
QVC Price: $50
Colors Included: Satin Taupe, Tinsel, Hunter, 24K, Lucky Penny, Black Cherry, Navy, Plum, Deepest Brown, Onyx
Satin Taupe, Tinsel, Hunter, 24K, Lucky Penny, Black Cherry, Navy, Plum, Deepest Brown, Onyx

The colors don't look like anything spectacular but they will be nice basics to add to my collection.  As I try the colors out, I will do mini reviews.  A quick FYI, some of the eyeliners arrived slightly twisted up which means that some were a bit messy when I took the  off.

Lip of the Day - MAC Rare Exotic Mattene Lipstick

Oct 19, 2011

This lip of the day is for Stephani!  She requested lip swatches from the MAC haul that I recently did.  Unfortunately I couldn't find one of the lipsticks but I wanted to at least get this one up!

MAC Hoard: Face and Lip Products

Oct 17, 2011

I've noticed that MAC has been getting a lot of negativity thrown their way lately.  With them releasing multiple collections within short periods of time, it seems that people have been getting a little frustrated.  I still love MAC because they have a wide range of products, they ship to me relatively quickly and they have some really great permanent products.  Also, because I haven't been into MAC that long, I don't mind seeing the collections and re-releasing of products that I may have missed out on.

My recent purchases from MAC have been pretty basic but I thought I would share.

Products Purchased:
MAC Blush Palette
$16 USD
Fits 6 MAC blush pans (of which I cracked two of my blushes trying to de-pot them and now I hate life! lol)
MAC Fix +
$10 (1 fl.oz.)
An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural
Shade:  Dark Deep
$27 USD
"A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day."

I already have the Dark shade and I use it all the time.  I bought the deeper shade to add a little bit more color to the perimeter of my face when I don't want to use my bronzer.

MAC Lipstick
Shade:  Jubilee
$14.50 USD
"Naked beigey-pink (Lustre)"

I bought this lipstick and the next lipstick after seeing the shades on Glam Morena's blog.  I'm trying to hunt down my perfect nude lip color and wanted to try them out.
MAC Lipstick
Shade:  Viva Glam II
$14.50 USD
"Muted pink-beige with shimmer (Satin)"

MAC Mattene Lipstick
Shade:  Rare Exotic

$14.50
"bright midtone blue pink"

"With its streamlined design, this new slimline lipcolour, features the traditional glamour properties of a matte lipstick – intense colour and semi-matte velvety finish – while offering a creamier, softer, more glide-on application. Non-caking, non drying. Moisturizing and incredibly wearable yet absolutely matte."

LOVE THIS!  The formula and the color are both fantastic and this is my new favorite lipstick.  I plan on buying a few more shades and a backup.  These should totally be added to the permanent line.

Let me know if any of you want to see lip swatches as I can do a separate post.

Product Spotlight: Nars Exhibit A Blush

Oct 9, 2011

When did I fall in love with blush?  I can remember it like it was yesterday.  I started working for a makeup company and I was an eyeshadow and lipgloss kind of girl.  One of my co-workers always wore amazing looking blush and I made a comment stating that none of the blushes we sold would work for me.  Of course she made it her job to prove me wrong and she definitely succeeded.  I fell in love with a hot pink blush!  Now as my love for blush has increased, I had to check out one of the brown girl blush staples, Nars Exhibit A blush.  This blush is described as brilliant red and it surely lives up to that description.  I love Nars blushes because they are highly pigmented and they blend like a dream.

I am glad that I have this blush in my collection and will break it out more often now that winter is approaching.

Journey to Healthy Hair

Oct 4, 2011

hair is not completely straight and is actually longer than pictured
I cut my hair a little over a year ago and my husband pretty much begged me to grow out my hair.  It was fairly easy at first because I had a professional hair stylist that I went to every 1-2 weeks so I didn't really have to do anything to maintain my hair.  She did the trimming, washing and deep conditioning for me.  Well fast forward and life happens.  We moved and there goes my hair.  I'm not sure if it was stress or just sheer laziness but my hair started to shed like crazy.  The center area of my hair has always been an issue for me but this time it broke off severely.  I wanted to cry but crying doesn't solve the problem.  I decided to get serious about my hair and try to be diligent about taking care of it.  Of course being the product junkie that I am, I bought too many products and subsequently became overwhelmed.  I wanted to quit, but I'm not a quitter and I promised my husband that I would do my best to grow out my hair.  I think I have finally come up with an easy system that seems to be working as my husband had been complimenting me on my hair a lot lately.  After all the products I tried there seems to be 3 that work the best and most of them are inexpensive.
