Ben Nye Luxury Powders - Cameo, Buff, Banana, Beige Suede, Nutmeg, Dark Cocoa
Jan 1, 2013
I've been upgrading my freelance kit for the past few months now. I recently tried the Ben Nye Beige Suede and Banana Powders on myself and I loved them so I decided to order some for my kit. I ordered 3 light shades and 3 darker shades. There are additional shades available but I settled on these 6 and I think I'll be able to cover any client with these shades.
Ben Nye Luxury Powder
Shades Purchased: Cameo, Buff, Banana, Beige Suede, Nutmeg, Dark Cocoa
Price: $7.99-$8.50 USD for 1.5oz
Available at CameraReadyCosmetics
Now I mostly use these powders to set concealer underneath the eyes and on super oily clients to set their t-zone and/or face depending on how oily the person is. I absolutely love these powders and they will continue to be a staple makeup product both in my personal and professional collections.
Let me know if you have any questions about these powders and I will be more than happy to answer them for you.
Thanks for stopping by! Happy New Year!

I have the banana powder and use it to set my undereye concealer also, but now I want to try nutmeg. Thanks for sharing these swatches!
ReplyDeleteNo problem! I usually use Beige Suede to set my concealer but I've tried Banana too and like it!
ReplyDeleteI want nutmeg and dark cocoa. Get the lighter shades for my kit
ReplyDeleteDid you get these when camera ready had their sale?
@kim Nope I just hauled them when I was going through my kit upgrade!
ReplyDeletehi! what shades do you think would go well with an nc50-55 skin tone?
ReplyDeleteProbably Dark Cocoa used very lightly
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm use mac's c40 and I was wondering what tone would suit me best? And can I use this as an all over face powder?
ReplyDeleteYou coukd most likely get away with either Beige Suede or Nutmeg. They are really sheer so yes, you can use them allover the face, but they are really matte.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested on buy this product!! I don't use Mac no more but my shade for Mac studio fix is NW20 soo... which shade u think will work for me??
DeleteMAC NC40 is pretty light!!! neige suede, buff would be suitable.
DeleteAnything dark would look orangey
Hi im NW35 what would be the perfect shade for my t-zone other than banana for undereyes? thanks!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi what would you recommend for NC40 skin love?? i want to try em!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I am a NW40 in MAC and I was wondering what shade you would recommend me using as an all-over face setting powder? I was tihnking; Beigie Suede, Topaz or Nutmeg. Thankyou :)
ReplyDeleteFor NW35 skin I would try the beige suede. Same fore NC40. For NW40, I would say Nutmeg or Beige Suede. I'm NW43 and I can get away with Beige Suede used lightly. It's all about how you use the product and what you use it for. The powders are very sheer which is why I can get away with using banana to set my under eye concealer, even though I'm darker
ReplyDeleteWould you please recommend one for me? For reference I'm around a NC 15 with very strong yellow undertones, I would like to try the banana powder but I'm afraid that it would be too dark for my skin...
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I'm a NW 47 & NW 45. WHat coloue would you recommend to set my concaler and as an all over face powder? Thanks!!!
ReplyDelete@Lebasigp23 It's hard for me to be certain as I haven't seen your skin in person but all of the Powders are very sheer and can be applied lightly. I think banana may work for you but I can't be sure.
ReplyDelete@Corrine I would use beige suede to set your concealer and maybe Nutmeg for the face. I have never used.
Keep in mind that I only use these powders to set concealer so it's hard for me to gauge how it may look on your face without seeing you in person.
Thanks!
I love all the shades of ben nye foundation, they all looked natural.
ReplyDeleteI wear mac NW55. What colors do you think will work for me? I really want to try this brand but afraid that I will select the wrong color & look ashy lol

ReplyDeletehi, im an nc30. do you think its gonna be too yellow if i use banana powder to set my whole face? if not, which shade would you recommend for me to set my foundation?
ReplyDeletethank you!!
@Folashade I would recommend Dark Cocoa. It will not look ashy! However, I personally wouldn't set my entire face with this powder as it is very matte.
ReplyDelete@Kartikakasih I think it may be too yellow but it also depends on what foundation you are wearing under it. If the foundation already leans yellow, then it may be too much. You may want to try a different shade.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm NC15/20! What color would you recommend to set my whole face and the concealer?? It can be 2 different colors ... Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI'm Hispanic and my skin color is between light and and olive tone. What do you recommend?
ReplyDelete@Luciana I've been using Buff to set the concealer on my lighter clients. I rarely use any of the powders all over the face, however, you can try a light dusting of Buff.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous What are you using the powder for?
ReplyDeleteTo set my concealer.
ReplyDeleteBanana Powder or Buff if you are really light.
ReplyDeleteHi.. I use MAC nc 50 or dark translucent blot powder for my -zone, which is very oily. Would u recommend the dark cocoa? I like something very natural, but with a little coverage. Would I use this to set what I am currently using or can I use it alone?
ReplyDeleteHi, many thanks for this swatches! my skin is quite oily and none of the powders makes it matte for a few hours (i do not expect matte finish to last all day). I thought about Ben Nye as heard so many good things about it.I use MAC foundation, I mix NW20 with NW25 so it matches my skintone more. what shade of Ben Nye would you reccomend for face and which would be the best for setting the concealer under eyes? thank you :)
ReplyDeleteFor NC50, you can wear dark cocoa but it has very minimal coverage. It is also very matte so it would be perfect for the t-zone. Also keep in mind that the powders offer very little color so another color may also work for you. I am NW43 and I have dusted Beige Suede all over my face before and it was fine in terms of color.
ReplyDeleteFor NW20/NW25 I rarely use any of the powders all over the face, however, you can try a light dusting of Buff. To set concealer, Cameo and Buff would work.
ReplyDeletehi, i use Nars sheer glow foundation in shade Macao and also sometimes Armani Luminous in shade 10. what shade Ben Nye powder do you think would be right for me. I've only seen the Banana shade. y friend who is a little lighter than me uses it to highlight. i think that is too yellow for me.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered some of these from camera ready... My banana was feeling lonely (my excuse) I really needed them for my kit though.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little obsessed with them!
ReplyDeleteHello, sorry Im a bit late with this lol But I am Hispanic and light to medium skin tone. I use MAC foundation in NC25-30. Which powder do u think will work best to set my under eye concealer nd highlight?
ReplyDeleteMizzMandylion Banana would work but it has a very yellow tone to it. Also, the powders are very sheer so many would probably work on you.
ReplyDeletei wonder if u can use this alone for everyday use? :)
ReplyDelete@Tin G, They are really sheer so it wouldn't offer much coverage but would take away shine.
ReplyDeleteHi , Amazing post! I am so new to this and I am an NW45 what shade/brand of concealer would you recommend( I was told I had to go 2 shades lighter) and what Ben Nye shade will you recommend ? For setting foundation? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like the NW40 studio finish concealer by MAC. If you want a really bright under eye highlight go with Banana but for every day highlighting, I would use Beige Suede.
ReplyDeletehi,
ReplyDeleteI use Nw50 foundation, pls wat concealer will u recommend for under eye highlight nd babana powder.my face is a bit dry.
Thk u
I am N5 in mac what do u think I should use..im fair
ReplyDeleteHello! I am nc25 in mac studio fix plus powder. What shade can I use as a substitute? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am NC35-40, I bought most of the Ben nye powders. However, I found the Banana to look very yellow on my under eye ! I don't know why every one at my skin tone finds it fine ! I bought the pretty pink one to try for under eye. I do have dark circle which I get rid of them with the balm concealer in light/med . Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Very good post thanks for the swatches. I am hispanic light/medium tone what ben nye powder shade would you recommend for an all over powder. Thank U
ReplyDeleteAnabelle
If banana is too yellow and you are of darker complexion, try Beige Suede. If you are of a pale complexion, try Cameo or Buff.
ReplyDeleteThis is great info and as has been said above, the swatches and details you've provided are very helpful. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm an NC44 with a dab of Nw43. What do you suggest for me? I'll be using it to set under eye concealer/brighten under my eyes...
ReplyDelete@pOSh G Beige Suede
ReplyDeleteAww Sabrina you're so cute! Now let me see if I have this straight as to what woc are doing with this banana powder. You all are using it to set the under eye....only? Not all over the face, correct? It's for when you want to be super bright under the eye to up the glam factor?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteYou are right! I only use it underneath the eyes but I prefer Beige Suede.
ReplyDeleteHi I wear a NC 42 concealer & a 6.0 foundation which should I try? Also, I have excessively oily skin & the 6.0 doesn't stay matte long enough for me. Will Ben nye powder work better for me?
ReplyDeleteYes, it will help set it into place. I would try the Nutmeg shade or maybe a mixture of the Beige Suede and Nutmeg. Also, MAC has a variety of loose powders that would also work.
DeleteHi Sabrina, I wear NC42 concealer & 6.0 foundation with Mac which powder should I use? Also, I have excessively oily skin & the 6.0 doesn't stay matte long enough. I say within 30 min I'm oily & I'm oily all over my face would Ben nye help?
ReplyDeleteHey Sabrina, if I use NC35 which color will suit me dear?
ReplyDeleteI currently use Estee Lauder double wear light intensity 2.0 so I don't know which powder shade to get?!... if it helps I used to use Mac studio fix NW20
ReplyDeleteHi Sabrina
ReplyDeleteI hope you can help, can I ask if there is a difference to BUFF and BANANA shade? I am around NC-20 Shade which of the two would you recommend?
thank you,
Lia
So I use bare minerals ready foundation in medium beige which color would suit me? I use to wear Mac but Mac broke me out I forgot my shade.
ReplyDeleteHi Lia! I would recommend Buff. Banana is more yellow toned.
ReplyDeleteHi Flipfonow. I think you can use a tiny bit of banana but if that is too yellow, try a translucent powder.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently wearing natural tan, I'm curious as to what color you would recommend. I tan so my color changes. I consider myself to be pale right now lol. Any suggestions please!
ReplyDeleteHi Lacie, It depends on what you are using it for
ReplyDeleteWhats the different between all of them.
ReplyDeleteas I understood that Banana suit more yellow & darker skin
What about beige & others ?
What about fair skin ?

Hi Sabrina- I just found your blog and am so grateful that someone will answer questions about this product. How do you use Cameo v. Buff?
ReplyDeleteI'm asking because I'm extremely pale with neutral undertones. I wear Siberia in Nars (which is a tiny bit yellow/warm), but I also wear Beige Rose 12 in Chanel (which is just barely pink/cool). Any suggestions on how I could use Cameo, Buff, or (maybe) Banana?
Hi, I wear NC45 and wanted to know which powder to use as an all over setting powder? Under eye concelaer setting? My skin looks like Gabrielle Union's if that helps. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWithout seeing you it would be hard to give an exact shade match but since the powders are pretty sheer, I would recommend Beige Suede for under the eye and Nutmeg for the rest of the face.
DeleteHello! I'm a MAC NC35, and every day makeup user. I was wondering which shade of Luxury Powder would be best for me? I'm planning on purchasing some. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I`m a NC 25 and I can`t deside which Ben Nye should I use.
ReplyDeleteI already tried Banana, but it`s a little bit to pale and yellow to use it on my face as a setting powder, and I don`t need it to cover my undereye region. My skintone is more neutral and beige then yellow.
Now I have doubt which one should I buy- Buff or Beige Suede ?
I don't normally use these for setting the entire face but you would probably be able to use Beige Suede as it is really sheer but warmer in tone.
DeleteHey im mac nc 45 in powder and I does use mac nw 40 as my concealer but I would like to know what shade in concealer to use for highlight ?and what ben nye powder to use?
ReplyDeleteI would use Beige Suede for a more natural highlight and Banana for a more dramatic highlight
Deletewhat is the difference between cameo and buff? do they have a pink, yellow or neutral undertone?
ReplyDeleteCameo is Neutral/Slightly Cool toned while Buff is a tad warmer
Deletewould I be able to use cameo all around my face if I'm a nc40 ?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't recommend it.
DeleteHi! I'm an NC25, what shade would you recommend? Thanks xo
ReplyDeleteCameo
DeleteHi, I just came across this very helpful. I wear Mac Face and Body C1 or Estee Lauder double wear in medium. Wanting to use as an all over setting powder. what shade would you suggest? Thanks
ReplyDeleteMost shades are sheer and forgiving. From the shades that I posted, I would recommend Beige Suede.
DeleteHello, I have heard about this product and just as I was about to purchase it, someone mentioned that the product contains certain substances that might cause cancer. is this true or is it a scam?
ReplyDeleteIf you are concerned about any ingredients, I would consult with a medical doctor or dermatologist. There are a lot of product ingredients in makeup and skincare that have been speculated to have properties that may cause, however, I don't believe there have been any concrete developments that prove these speculations. You also have to consider the particle size of the product and if it is actually seeping into the skin.....
DeleteHi, would you recommend the beige suede for setting both concealer and an overall face powder for my skin tone which is light in the winter but tanner in the summer?
ReplyDeleteI've used it for both and it worked out fine for me. I haven't used it on any of my lighter clients as an overall setting powder though because it can cause the skin to go very flat and matte. If you use it all over your face, use a very light hand.
DeleteHi! I'm an NW50 in MAC, what shade would you recommend in both the classic and luxury range. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi, Im a NC42/43 in MAC. What will you recommend..either Camel or Clay? I would like to use as an overall face powder.
ReplyDeleteHi, Im a NC42/43 in MAC Studio Fix powder. Camel or Clay will suit me? I would like to use it as an overall face powder instead. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't have those shades any more so I couldn't be certain but since the powder is quite sheer they may work out.
Deleteyou are a star for taking the time to answer questions..good on you!
ReplyDeleteLiina, hi Sabrina I am having a very oily skin , and I am using L'Oreal new shade W10 and Clinique 20 stay nutmeg which powder will recommend to use BEN NYE LUXURY POWDER
ReplyDeleteI'm not very familiar with those brands so I'm not sure your exact color but it seems like Beige Suede or Nutmeg would be the two to consider.
DeleteHI, I wear NW 43 in MAC studio fix. What would you recommend for all over the face setting powder?
ReplyDeleteThey are really sheer powders so you could get away with wearing Nutmeg but I would probably mix Beige Suede with it.
DeleteHi Sabrina (wave!) - I saw in previous comments you advised NW43-45 to use a mixture of nutmeg and beige suede for all over setting. What would you advise for just the under eyes?
ReplyDeleteAlso, does the same apply for NC43-45?
Banana would work for under the eyes just don't go overboard! Also, Beige Suede should work for the NC43/45 bit it is a little warm toned so be careful with application
DeleteI'm on deeper end of NC45 sometimes mix of NW43 or NW43 alone...depends on time of year (sometimes i'm reddish and sometimes i've very neutral w/ both red+yellow undertones) and i'm curious what beige suede mixed with nutmeg would look like for overall face.
ReplyDeleteMore than likely it would be too light but I can't be sure without seeing your face.
DeleteThis is me with a pinch of "tan" left from the end of summer. http://i.imgur.com/599lWdH.jpg
DeleteHi im a filipina.what color would you suggest for me?
ReplyDeleteThat's not a skintone/complexion....you can't just state your ethnicity and expect someone to match you. I sat in a house full of like 15 Filipinos (amongst others) during the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight and they were very fair/light to medium/almost caramel tan.
DeleteHi, Can you use these to set foundation or are they just best for concealer setting under the eye? x
ReplyDeleteI use Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless in shade 125 Nude Beige. I am middle eastern. I have light, but creamy skin that tans easily. I seem to have yellowish patches, but my skin can also get very red if irritated. I have fairly dark under eye circles. Middle eastern could mean any things, so I guess you could compare me to an Italian or Portuguese type skin tone. Dark brown hair. I need to know if I should be using banana, or cameo
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeletei am a NW25 in mac concealer and i tried banana but it is so "fake " under my eyes and don't make them bright/light Which one should i use?You suggest buff in others, cameo or beige suede.I want a flawless light result with NW25 concealer.
By the way Thanks for your blog really helpful!!!!!!!!!
Hi. How are you using the product? Are you using it with a fluffy blending brush or are you "baking it"? Cameo would probably be a better match for you or you can try the Laura Mercier Translucent powder. http://shinyhappypretty.com/laura-merciers-translucent-setting-powder/
