Get Glowing Skin in the Winter Months

Dec 26, 2013

Man look, my skin has been a cracky, crunchy, itchy mess since I've been in Germany.  Now I've had dry skin all my life but since moving to Germany, it's been even worse.  It really sucks because I love makeup and even though I love a good cake face, there is nothing cute about a cakey face.  You know that look when your makeup sinks into every crack and crevice of your face or it just kind of sits on top looking crunchy.  Yup, that is how my makeup was starting to look.  However, with the proper skincare and makeup combo's I have been able (most times) to avoid this look.  Most recently, I started to receive compliments on my skin again and I knew that I finally hit the skincare/makeup combo jackpot.

The following products are my current skin savers and are kept in heavy rotation.

1. MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
I use this product once a week when my skin is looking extra crazy.  It doesn't feel abrasive on my skin and it has become the only exfoliator that I use.
2. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
I use this to remove my makeup every day.  It is amazing for taking off all of my long-wearing products and not irritating my sensitive skin.

3. Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser
It's amazing.  Try it.  Love it.  That is all.

4. Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer
Again, Kiehl's is saving my face.  This moisturizer is so good at moisturizing without leaving me feeling greasy.  It sinks into the skin but not so much that I start to dry out.  It is also great for me as a substitute for a foundation primer because I find that when I use this, I really don't need to prime my skin because my foundation glides on and works really well with my current foundation.

Now these are my makeup glow bunnies.  These products help me achieve that glowing skin even though I like a full coverage look.

1. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish - Comfort
(this product is limited edition but you can substitute it for theBalm's Betty Lou-Manizer to get a similar effect)
I put this product on the top of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid's bow to get a warm glow.  It is perfect because it's not to shimmery but gives the right amount of sheen/glow to the skin.

2. NARS Blush - Taj Mahal or Taos
Both shades are amazing and really help to give the skin a healthy glow.  I use Taj Mahal more in the summertime when I want a bronzier look and I use Taos when I want a little more color.

3. Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer - Ebony 8
My favorite bronzer ever!  I love the way this looks on the skin. I apply it around my temples, in the contour of my cheeks and on the sides of my nose.  It gives the perfect amount of bronze to the skin without looking too dark or too shimmery.

These products are absolute favorites of mine and I hope this post helps some of you that may have skin issues like mine!

CLIENT FILES - ASHLEY

A few months ago I had the pleasure of painting the face of one of my favorite clients, Ashley.  She is serious about her fashion and is launching her business as a stylist.  She hired an amazing photographer and together they captured these amazing moments.  I absolutely love how the shots came out and I am so excited that I was able to do the makeup!

I can't wait to paint her face again.  So amazing.

The Picture that Captures my so called LIFE!

Photo:  PINTEREST

My So-Called Life is seriously one of my favorite shows ever.  I am so upset that only one season was filmed but at least I can see Claire Danes on Homeland now.  When I saw this picture on Pinterest I gasped a little bit because it is just too gorgeous for words.  I'm in love all over again and I think tomorrow will be filled with Jordan Catalano and Angela Chase re-runs.  Oh and the hair in this picture is everything and more.  Simply gorgeous and whomever made it is a truly talented individual.

Cheers

When I remember to take a picture of my work, it is a great day!  This is another one of my gorgeous clients that I absolutely loved working on!  Face is amazing.  I love that she can serve that real life BEAT.  Highlight, Contour, Red Lip Realness!

It's holiday party season around here and I've been getting pretty busy with my clients.  This was an easy fun look that I did yesterday for one of my clients and I wanted to share it with you guys.  She is so gorgeous and was giving extreme Hollywood glamour vibes.  LOVE!  On her lips we have Sephora Lip Stain #001 with MAC's Riri Woo on top.  Hope you guys enjoy this holiday season!

Cheers

COOKING - Chicken stuffed with Prosciutto & Cheese

I've been so bored with everything that I've been cooking lately, so I decided to try out a few new recipes.  This one got 4 stars from my fam bam so I thought that I would share it with you guys.  It is Stuffed Chicken with Prosciutto, Cheese and Basil in a Mushroom Sauce.  AMAZING!

Here is a link to the recipe Epicurious - Stuffed Chicken Recipe

I changed the following things to make the recipe work for me, you may find this useful if you decide to try out the recipe too!

CHANGES
1.  I purchased Chicken Breast Halves
2.  I used oven safe bands to tie the chicken together
3.  I only used 1 type of basic white mushroom
4.  I used homemade Chicken Stock (I had some in the freezer and yes, I made it myself) instead of Chicken broth
5.  I only used fresh basil in the mushroom sauce because that was all I had on hand
6.  Since I don't have an oven safe skillet, while I was pre-heating the oven, I put a pan in there and just transferred the chicken from the skillet to the hot pan (you'll understand when you read the directions)

Let me know if you try the recipe out and tell me what you think!
